Sri Lanka Bans NGOs from Media Contacts, Training

Enter this in the hard-to-believe category: the government of Sri Lanka just issued an order banning NGOs from working with the media. Any media. Included on the list of restricted activity: "conducting press conferences, workshops, journalism training and dissemination of press releases." Goons have already disrupted training workshops for journalists on the island.

BBC College of Journalism Now Open to World

The BBC College of Journalism is making its training resources free to the public in 11 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Hausa, Pashto, Persian, Russian, Swahili, Urdu and Vietnamese. More languages to come soon. Among the topics covered: using social media, verification, web writing, packaging for TV, investigations, interviewing, and security.
