Giannina Segnini wins Maria Moors Cabot Prize

Costa Rican data journalism trailblazer and investigative reporter Giannina Segnini has won a Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The Cabot Prize lauded Segnini as a fearless reporter and an innovator whose “courageous investigative stories unveiling corruption and bribery scandals led to the arrest of two former Costa Rican presidents.”

Giannina Segnini Joins Columbia J-School

Columbia Journalism School announced the addition of investigative reporter Giannina Segnini as visiting professor for the 2014-2015 academic year. Segnini has led major investigative series about corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean and until recently was the editor of the investigative unit at La Nacion, Costa Rica’s most influential newspaper

Giannina Segnini Wins Garcia Marquez Award

Giannina Segnini, who leads the investigative data unit at La Nacion in Costa Rica, won the Gabriel Garcia Marquez award for excellence in journalism. The jury highlighted “her extraordinary contribution to the quest for truth through investigative journalism and the use of the potential of new technologies in reporting.”
